Saga West Dining Room

Restaurant Story

Built as the headquarters of Cities Service Company, the Art Deco tower at 70 Pine Street was completed in 1932. The company’s founder, Henry Latham Doherty, reserved the spire of the building to use as a private triplex apartment. Today, Saga occupies these lofty floors, transforming this storied New York penthouse into a world-class dining experience with uninterrupted views of the New York skyline.

Opened in 2021 by Chef Jamal James Kent, the restaurant was awarded two stars from the Michelin Guide after a year of operation–a designation it has maintained each subsequent year. Critically acclaimed for its unique take on fine dining, Chef Kent’s vision of Saga pushed beyond the status quo, executing a menu that was worldly and approachable. That ethos of pushing the boundaries is spearheaded today by Chef Charlie Mitchell, who was appointed Executive Chef of Saga in July of 2024.

The multi-course tasting menu prepared by Chef Mitchell and his team is rooted in emotion, memory, and a deep respect for craft. Each dish tells a story: some inspired by ingredients, others by nostalgia or classic technique. The flavors of Saga are bold yet refined, shaped by Chef Mitchell’s upbringing in Detroit and rooted in humble ingredients intentionally elevated.

Perched high above Manhattan, Saga offers an experience that is intimate and unmistakably New York.
